CONSTRUCTION OF SRI VANAMAMALAI MUTT-KAINKARYAM AT THIRUMALA

   Vanamamalai, otherwise called nAnguneri is a beautiful divya desam in the southern district of Tamil Nadu, Thirunelveli.  Swamy NammAzhvar adorns this divya desam as Sirivaramangala nagar.  This wonderful divyadesam for centuries is under the control of the esteemed Vanamamalai mutt.  Probably this should be rewritten the above statement as: The pontiffs of Vanamamalai mutt, being blessed with this unique opportunity, with great honour and pleasure do selfless kainkaryam to Sirivaramanga sametha deivanayaka perumal with atmost ecstasy.  This is one such divya desam where the thayar (piratti) has been granted special powers by emperuman himself.  Srivaramangai nachiyar, originally belongs to thirumala.  Since thiruvenkatamudaiyan is celebrated as alarmelmangai urai mArban he didn’t cherish a separate nachiyar sannadhi.  Hence this nachiyar remained desolated.  When the first pontiff of Vanamamalai mutt, HH Sri Ponnadikkal Jeeyer swamy visited Thirumalai, thayar appeared in the dream and instructed swamy to take her with him to Vanamamalai.

The same order was placed to HH Sri Periya kelvi appan Jeeyer swamy also.  Therefore, understanding the wish of piratti HH Sri Periya kelvi appan swamy made all arrangements for the travel of Piratti from thirumalai to vanamamalai and henceforth HH Sri Ponnadikkal swamy attained the status of father to srivaramangai nachiyar.  On reaching vanamamalai, swamy welcomed thayar to the mutt and rushed to Deivanayaka perumal’s sannadhi to get the permission for the wedding.  With the acceptance of perumal the grand wedding of the divine couples was grandly celebrated in front of Onnana swamy (HH Sri Ponnadikkal swamy, father-in-law to deivanayaka perumal).  Our swamy thus obtained the post of father-in-law to perumal similar to janaka/periazhvar.

Due to this grand happening, Jeeyers from the vanamamalai mutt are given special honours at thirumalai.  So whenever a jeeyer from this mutt visits thirumalai, HH Sri Periya Kelvi appan swamy welcomes the Jeeyer and gives his own mutt for the Jeeyer of vanamamalai mutt to stay with special esteem.  Thereby till this date there has never raised a necessity for a separate vanamamalai mutt in thirumalai in contrast to other divya desams.

But the conditions in thirumalai are changing.  So it is now time to give our support and hence it has become necessary for a separate vanamamalai mutt to strengthen our power in the activities at thirumalai.  Being a very old mutt, it is absolutely necessary for it to be present in the second renowned divya desam of the Srivaishnavas.  Due to the divine grace of alarmel mangai urai mArban (thiruvenkatamudaiyan) the efforts of our revered acharyan, HH Sri kaliyan ramanuja Jeeyer swamy has become fruitful.  A land has been allocated by TTD themselves for this purpose.  The estimate of construction of the mutt is about 80 lakhs.  Isn’t it our prime duty to take part in this divine acharya kainkaryam?  This will make not only the acharya but all our poorvacharyas and ofcourse the divine couples happy. 

We hope that all bhagavatas will contribute liberally towards this divine kainkaryam and get the blessings of Srivaramanga sametha Sri deivanayaka perumal, Sri alarmEl mangai sametha Sri Srinivasa perumal along with the blessings of Sri onnana vanamamalai jeeyer swamy (father of Srivaramangai nachiyar of thirumalai and father-in-law to deivanayaka perumal) and mangalasasanams of our revered acharya, Sri Kaliyan vanamamalai jeeyer swamy (30th pattam).
